Stand up for peoples' rights and don't support bullshit like this.Ĭlick to expand.Right because companies don't abuse or circumvent the DMCA at all. Nintendo already had to have fingers waved at them for using 'warranty void if removed' stickers on the Switch, which the FTC repeatedly clarified are illegal and void, they mean nothing from a legal standpoint and you cannot deny someone a contracted warranty for the removal of said stickers. Nintendo is free to do what they want with their software, they can ban you from online services if they detect you mod your system, that's fine, I don't have an issue with that.īut once you buy a physical Switch, or any other physical piece of electronics equipment, that is now yours, you own it, and you can do whatever the fuck you want with it. Let me tell you why Nintendo is full of shit, and it all has to do with an offshoot of the right to repair laws that exist in this country. Nintendo claims that hardware modification violates DMCA and agreements between the customer and Nintendo for the rights to even use the device. One such seller does not even sell the mod chips, you literally send your Switch and the mod chips to him, and all he does is solder them to the board. Now they're sending cease and desist orders to people who even offer to put the chips in. Last month Nintendo went to court to attempt to stop a new release of internal Switch mod chips.
